LPRA : Call for comment / Approval SRD UHF Spectrum 23:06:2017

Dear LPRA Member,

After almost ten years, the wait for the release of up to 12MHz of valuable SRD UHF spectrum is almost at an end. The bands 870-876MHz and 915-921MHz has been released in several European countries but the EC is seriously considering the release of this valuable spectrum on a harmonized basis across the EU.

A workshop will be held in Brussels on 19th June 2017 (please see PDF links below) and we need as many members as possible to write to the EC expressing their interest in having this spectrum released.

Please write an Email to Ruediger Martin at the EC (Ruediger.MARTIN@ec.europa.eu) expressing your support.

You might also consider attending the workshop.

Arguments to be given justifying the release of the spectrum might include:

-          The expected growth of the SRD market in Europe over the next decade

-          Interference from LTE below 862MHz

-          Increased use of the SRD bands by the cellular community, such as the introduction of wideband technology into 863-868MHz (IEEE802.11ah).

-          The need for higher power allowances for outside applications (up to 500mW) – currently the only channel – 869.4MHz – is extremely crowded.

Please do take the opportunity to support the LPRA’s campaign to get this valuable spectrum released.

Thanks and kind regards

Simon Dunkley
