Seasonal Message From The LPRA Chairman December 2013
Dear LPRA Members,
Yet another year draws rapidly to a close – although the economic climate is still unstable, confidence is starting to creep back in. I am pleased to report that 2013 was a good year for the LPRA and that we had a 99% renewal rate and two new members joined in the latter part of the year. The plethora of industry and innovation awards won by our members in the past year is testament to the amazing companies we have in our LPRA family. A very major part of our activities remains the policy/advocacy and standards work that we do within the EC, CEPT and ETSI to ensure that the interests of our SRD industry are properly represented.
Members of the LPRA council are in senior positions in the relevant Technical Committees and Task Groups within ETSI as well as attending many of the important meetings in CEPT. In lobbying for changes to the Radio Equipment Directive we have built up some extremely strong contacts with MEPs in the UK and in Brussels. This is hopefully going to make it much easier for us to gain access to the relevant committee members and policy makers in the future. We are going to strengthen our position and raise the profile of the LPRA further in early 2014 by making a similar approach to the FCC.
We are also utilising our resident contacts in Dubai to facilitate an LPRA delegation for a short trip in late January 2014 to explore the rapidly expanding opportunities that are opening up for the SRD industry. We also have meetings planned with senior figures in the TRA (Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in UAE) to make sure that we establish a regular regulatory dialogue with the Spectrum Management decision makers in an area of the world that may be new territory for many of our members. 2015 will be the LPRA’s 25th Anniversary and your Council have already started working on ways of making Radio Solutions 2015 something very special for our members.
Once again I should like to thank members of the Council and Secretariat for all of their hard work over the past year. The activities of Council Members are entirely voluntary so I should like to say how much I appreciate their efforts.
Finally I hope that you all have a very Happy Christmas and wish you the very best for the New Year.
